The Bible BTC Project aims to utilize the blockchain to ensure the preservation of the Bible for generations to come and as a tool to spread the Gospel to places under oppressive regimes that disallow the Bible.
We know firsthand the transformative power of the Bible and we want to share the Good News with anyone and everyone, no matter what comes in the future in terms of religious persecution. There have been many times in the past that Bibles were burned, and there are places today where those who own Bibles are hunted and killed for the offense. Putting the Bible on the blockchain offers preservation and alternative access that wouldn't leave evidence of an individual owning a bible in physical or electronic format.
The Bible BTC Project specifically plans to preserve the Bible on the bitcoin blockchain by inscribing ordinals. Ordinals can be inscribed by minting the smallest unit of bitcoin called satoshis (think cents to a dollar is satoshis to bitcoin) and these ordinals can be in the form of text or images. In this case, we would inscribe the full text of the Bible. Once inscribed, the inscription can never be changed or deleted, and it will forever be available to read on the blockchain.
The blockchain is a public and decentralized ledger that is not in any one party's control such that there are a great multitude of nodes that carry a complete and true copy of the entire blockchain so no actor could successfully corrupt or change any one portion of it.
There are many potential routes to accomplish the task of preserving the Bible via technology. The most similar project was an Israeli project that preserved 5 books of the Old Testament on the Ethereum network. However, the remaining books of the Bible - most importantly the New Testament - have not been preserved in a like manner. At The Bible BTC Project, we believe the preservation of the entire Bible is of utmost importance.
Finally, we see inscription on bitcoin ordinals as ideal over other solutions such as the Ethereum network because bitcoin has an advantage over other potential routes having newly gained legitimacy by the SEC's approval of bitcoin ETFs. Seeing as bitcoin is now a bona fide investment, the bitcoin blockchain, and therefore the inscriptions on the same, will have relevance and reach for decades to come, if not longer.
So what now? We need help. Inscribing ordinals on the bitcoin blockchain is expensive, because like we mentioned a multitude of nodes (operated by node owners who have often invested tens of thousands in setting up their nodes) have to validate the minting and inscription of a bitcoin ordinal. That combined with how large the Bible is makes the fees for executing this project very high. On top of that, there is a frenzy for bitcoin ordinals as collectibles- much like the frenzy over NFTs. With speculative investors buying ordinals for several thousands a piece, this has driven up the cost of minting bitcoin ordinals and it is not likely to drop.
While we estimate we will need around $1.5M just to inscribe the Bible in the world's 23 most spoken languages, our initial goal is just $60,000 to start with inscribing the English language version. Estimates may increase over time as inscription fees are likely to only go up from this point onwards. Down the line, we would like to inscribe the Bible in as many languages as possible, but we will start with English first as it is the most universally spoken language.
Please share this mission with your friends, family, and churches and donate to help preserve the Bible in immutable form forever more.
